Description
Original pressure gauge for Sage coffee machine Sage SP0100697
The original Sage pressure gauge for the Barista Express coffee machine (SKU SP0100697, reference BES870/03.9A) is the component responsible for displaying the brewing pressure in real time. Without it, it is impossible to know whether the espresso is being produced at the correct pressure of 8-9 bar. A damaged pressure gauge causes blind brewing and inconsistent coffee. Replacing with an original one ensures an accurate return to the optimal zone marked on the clock.
Is your pressure gauge frozen, not moving, or showing the wrong pressure? This is the part to replace. Check compatibility by model number before ordering, and contact us if in doubt.
What does the pressure gauge do in your coffee machine?
The pressure gauge displays the brewing pressure in real time – is the needle in the optimal gray area? A needle that is too low indicates a weak and flat extraction. A needle that is too high – blockage and overpressure. A proper pressure gauge allows you to calibrate the grind and improve each cup. When it stops moving – the machine continues to work, but you are working blindly.

🔧 Can the pressure gauge be replaced independently?
The replacement is classified as a technician job – taking the inside of the machine apart, disconnecting the pressure connections, and releasing the circuit board require basic knowledge of disassembling espresso machines. In the experience of our technicians, most replacements take between 45 minutes and an hour with the right tools. Those who have tried to disassemble small appliances in the past – usually manage. Others – it is better to refer to a qualified technician.
Required tools: Phillips screwdriver, plastic opening tool (for covering), patient hands.
Main steps:
- Removing the rear screws and top panel
- Gently release the front panel from the tabs
- Disconnecting the pressure hose from the old pressure gauge
- Connecting the new pressure gauge and checking for leaks
- Reassembly and function test with blind basket
💡 Tip from the experts
Before deciding that the pressure gauge is faulty, perform one simple test: make a regular espresso and check to see if the needle moves at all. If it doesn’t, check that the small pressure tube connected to the back of the pressure gauge is not clogged or cracked. In our experience, in 20% of cases where a customer comes in with a “frozen pressure gauge,” the cause is a clogged pressure tube that can be cleaned – not a faulty pressure gauge. Save yourself the unnecessary purchase and check first.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
My pressure gauge isn't moving at all – is the machine still working?
Yes. The pressure gauge is a display component only and does not affect the operation of the machine itself. The machine will continue to brew coffee even with a faulty pressure gauge. But without a working pressure gauge, you have no visual feedback on the brewing pressure – and the quality of the coffee may be inconsistent without you knowing why.
What is the optimal espresso pressure in the Sage Barista Express machine?
Optimal brewing pressure is in the gray area marked on the dial – between 8 and 10 bar during active extraction. During the pre-infusion phase, the needle will be in a lower area – this is normal and designed this way on purpose. If the needle is low throughout the entire infusion, the grind is too coarse.
Is the SP0100697 compatible with the BES875 and BES860 models?
As per the reference BES870/03.9A, the part is for the BES870 series. Compatibility with other models – including BES875 and BES860 – depends on the production version. Please contact us with full model details to confirm before ordering.
